The Habitat for Humanity House

Henry Gonzales is the coordinator for the Knights' construction schedule. If you would like to work at the next build, contact Henry at stalliontheboss@juno.com or telephone 849-6616.

The Fall 2007 house will be built for the Chavez family, shown in the photo below with Henry Gonzales, Sam Szalwinski, and Rudy Escamilla.

The Fall 2007 house will be in the Palo Alto Subdivision in South San Antonio. Take Loop 410 South or Interstate 35 South to Highway 422, the Poteet Jourdanton Fwy. Turn West on Aragon and you will find Palo Alto Subdivision.

If you have never volunteered, there's nothing to it. Anyone can help, including spouses, friends, children (over age 16). There will be an opportunity for supervised teens age 14 and up to help landscape.

Plan to arrive early for the 8 am safety briefing and prayer. Wear appropriate clothing (no open toe shoes), hat, (shorts are okay). Habitats provide safety equipment (gloves, eye protection, helmet) and tools. The Knights provide water, food and snacks.

Volunteers are needed to provide the lunch for the group - usually about 20 people. Typical menus include buckets of chicken, sandwiches, pizza, casseroles, etc. Don't forget the brownies or cookies!

We will clean up about 3 pm and be done by 3:30. It can get hot working outside, and sometimes it rains, but there is always something to be done. There are only 14 workdays. Professionals pour the foundation and do the electrical and plumbing. Volunteers, under the supervision of a professional foreman, do all the rest.

There is a great sense of accomplishment, and you can learn some new skills, so come on down and join us!
